“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Prov. 29:18)
The first part of today’s verse is “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This is usually taken to mean that people must have goals toward which they are working. They must have a definite program in mind with a clear picture of the results desired and the steps leading to them.
But the word vision here means “a revelation from God.” And the word “perish” means “cast off restraint.” So the thought is that where the Word of God is not known and respected, the people run wild.
The contrast is found in the second half of the verse: “He that keepeth the law, happy is he.” In other words, the path of blessedness is found in obeying the will of God as it is found in the Word.
Let us think about the first part of the verse. Where people abandon the knowledge of God, they become unrestrained in their conduct. Suppose, for instance, that a nation turns away from God and explains everything on the basis of the evolutionary process. That means that man is the result of purely natural processes and not the creation of a supernatural Being. If that is so, then there is no basis for ethical standards. All our behavior is the inevitable result of natural causes. As Lunn and Lean point out in The New Morality, “If the first living cell evolved by a purely natural process on the surface of a lifeless planet, if the mind of man be as much the product of natural and material forces as a volcano, it is as irrational to condemn South African politicians for apartheid as to condemn a volcano for erupting lava.”
If God’s Word is rejected, then there are no absolute standards of right and wrong. Ethical truths depend on the individuals or groups holding them. People become the judge of their own conduct. Their philosophy is “If it feels good, do it.” The fact that “everyone’s doing it” is all the justification that is needed.
Thus the people cast off restraint. They abandon themselves to fornication, adultery and homosexuality. Crime and violence increase to alarming proportions. Corruption spreads throughout business and government. Lying and deceit become accepted forms of behavior. The fabric of society disintegrates.
“…but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Even when the rest of the world runs riot, the individual believer can find the good life in believing and obeying God’s Word. This is the only way to go.

திருமறை ஒழுங்கு
இன்றைய வசனத்தின் முதல் பகுதி, “தீர்க்கதரிசனமில்லாத இடத்தில் ஜனங்கள் சீர்கெட்டுப்போவார்கள்” என்று கூறுகிறது. தாங்கள் ஆற்றுகிற பணிகளில் மனிதர்கள் இலக்கை நிர்ணயித்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று இவ்வசனம் கூறுவதாகச் சாதாரணமாக எண்ணப்படுகிறது. அவர்கள் குறிப்பிட்ட செயல்முறைத் திட்டங்களை மனதில் சிந்தித்து, விரும்புகிற விளைவைப் பெறுவதற்கான படிகளில் முன்னேறிச் செல்ல தெளிவான தீர்மானங்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கவேண்டும்.
ஆனால் இங்கே “தீர்க்கதரிசனம்” என்ற சொல் தரிசனத்தைக் குறிக்காமல் “தேவனிடத்திலிருந்து கிடைக்கிற வெளிப்பாட்டைக்” குறிக்கிறது. மேலும் “சீர்கெட்டுப்போனவர்கள்| என்னும் சொல் „கட்டுப்பாட்டிலிருந்து தூக்கி எறியப்படுவார்கள்| என்று பொருள்படும். எங்கே திருமறை அறியப்படாதிருக்கிறதோ, அங்கெல்லாம் மக்கள் அலைக்கழிக்கப்படுகின்றனர்.
இதனுடைய எதிர்மறையை வசனத்தின் இரண்டாவது பகுதியில் காண்கிறோம். ‘வேதத்தைக் காக்கிறவனோ பாக்கியவான்” திருமறையில் காணக் கிடைக்கிற தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தை அறிந்து கீழ்படிகிறவன் ஆசீர்வாத வழியைக் கண்டடைகிறான் என்றும் இதனைக் கூறலாம்.
இவ்வசனத்தின் முதல் பகுதியைக் குறித்துச் சிந்திப்போம். தேவனுடைய அறிவை அறியாது விட்டொழிந்தவர்கள், தங்களுடைய வாழ்க்கையில் கட்டுப்பாட்டை இழந்து போவார்கள். ஒரு நாடு தேவனைவிட்டு விலகி பரிணாமக் கோட்பாட்டின் அடிப்படையில் எல்லாவற்றையும் விளக்குகிறது எனக் கொள்வோம். அதாவது மனிதன் இயற்கையாகவே படிப்படியாக உருவானவன், சிறந்ததொரு படைப்பாக படைக்கப்பட்டவன் அல்லன் என்பது இதன் பொருளாகும். அவ்வாறாயின், நன்னெறி சார்ந்த கோட்பாடுகளுக்கு அங்கே இடமில்லை. தவிர்க்க முடியாத சுபாவத்தின் அடிப்படையில்தானே நம்முடைய நடத்தைகள் உண்டாகின்றன. “உயிரற்ற பூமியில், உயிருடைய ஓர் அணு தானாகவே உண்டாகிவிட்டது என்று கூறுவோமானால், எரிமலை எத்தகைய இயற்கையான பொருட்களின் சீற்றமாக இருக்கிறதோ அவ்வாறே மனிதனுடைய மனதும் இருக்கிறது என்றே சொல்லவேண்டும். தென்ஆப்பிரிக்க அரசியல்வாதிகள் பின்பற்றும் இனவேறுபாட்டுச் சட்டத்தைப் பகுத்தறிவற்றது என்று குற்றம் சுமத்த முடியாது” என்று லுன் மற்றும் லீன் ஆகியோர் |புதிய ஒழுக்கம்| என்னும் நூலில் எழுதியுள்ளனர்.
இறைவனின் திருமறை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாப்படாவிடில், எது தகுதியானது, எது தவறானது என்று முடிவாக வகையறுத்துக் கூறமுடியாது. நன்னெறி ஒழுக்கங்கள் தனிப்பட்டோரின் எண்ணத்தையும், அவற்றைக் கடைப்பிடிப்போரின் கருத்தையும் சார்ந்ததாகிவிடும். தங்களுடைய நடத்தையை நியாயம் தீர்க்க மக்களே நீதிபதியாகிவிடுவர், ‘நல்லது என்று நினைத்தால், அதைச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்பதே அவர்கள் தத்துவம். ‘எல்லோரும் அதைச் செய்கின்றனர்,” ஆகவே அது முறையானதுதான் என்று தவறுகள் நியாயப்படுத்தப்படும்.
இவ்விதமாக மனிதர்கள் நேர்மையின் கேட்பாட்டிலிருந்து எறியப்படுகிறார்கள். தங்களை விபச்சாரத்திற்கும், வேசித்தனத்திற்கும், ஓரினச் சேர்க்கைக்கும், உட்படுத்திக் கொள்கின்றனர். குற்றங்களும் வன்முறைகளும் மிகவும் திகிலூட்டும் அளவிற்குப் பெருகிவருகின்றன. தொழில்துறையிலும், அரசாங்கத்திலும், கைக்கூலி பெறுதல், பெருகிவருகிறது. பொய்யுரைத்தலும், ஏமாற்றுதலும், ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்பட்ட நடத்தைகளாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றன. சமுதாயத்தின் இணக்கம் பிரிவினை அடைந்து சிதறுண்டுபோகிறது.
“வேதத்தைக் காக்கிறவனோ பாக்கியவான்” உலகில் மற்ற அனைவரும் சீர்கெட்டு போயினும், தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை விசுவாசித்து, அதற்குக் கீழ்படிந்து வாழும் விசுவாசி நல்வாழ்வைக் கண்டடைவான். இதுவே நனி சிறந்த ஒரே வழி.

»Wenn keine Offenbarung da ist, verwildert ein Volk; aber wohl ihm, wenn es das Gesetz beachtet!« Sprüche 29,18
Der erste Teil dieses Verses wird auch oft übersetzt mit: »Wo keine Vision ist, geht ein Volk zugrunde«. Und darunter versteht man dann normalerweise, dass ein Volk Ziele haben muss, auf die es hinarbeitet. Die Menschen müssen ein bestimmtes Programm vor Augen haben mit einer klaren Vorstellung von den gewünschten Ergebnissen und auch von den Schritten, die dahin führen.
Doch das Wort »Vision« bedeutet hier »eine Offenbarung von Gott«. Der Grundgedanke ist also, dass, wo das Wort Gottes nicht bekannt ist und nicht geachtet wird, die Menschen verwildern.
Der Gegensatz dazu steht in der zweiten Hälfte des Verses: »Wohl ihm, wenn es das Gesetz beachtet!« Mit anderen Worten: Der Weg des Segens liegt darin, dem Willen Gottes, wie wir ihn in Seinem Wort finden, zu gehorchen.
Wir wollen zunächst über den ersten Teil nachdenken. Wo Menschen nichts mehr von Gott wissen wollen, da werden sie ungezügelt in ihrem Verhalten. Nehmen wir einmal an, dass ein ganzer Staat sich von Gott abwendet und alles auf der Grundlage von Evolutionsprozessen erklärt. Man meint also dann, dass der Mensch das Ergebnis eines rein natürliches Vorgangs ist und nicht das Geschöpf eines übernatürlichen Wesens. Wenn das so ist, dann gibt es auch keine Grundlage mehr für irgendwelche moralischen Vorschriften. Unser Verhalten ist dann das zwangsläufige Ergebnis von bestimmten natürlichen Ursachen. Lunn und Lean weisen in ihrem Buch »Die neue Moral« auf Folgendes hin: »Wenn die erste lebende Zelle sich durch Evolution, also
durch einen rein natürlichen Vorgang auf einem leblosen Planeten entwickelt hat, wenn das Gehirn des Menschen genauso das Produkt von natürlichen und materiellen Kräften ist wie ein Vulkan, dann ist es völlig unsinnig, die Regierung von Südafrika wegen ihrer Apartheidspolitik anzuklagen, denn ebenso wenig kann man einen Vulkan dafür verurteilen, dass er Lava ausspuckt.«
Wenn Gottes Wort abgelehnt wird, gibt es keine absoluten Grundsätze mehr für Gut und Böse. Denn moralische Erkenntnisse hängen dann nur noch von einzelnen Menschen oder von Gruppen ab, die sie vertreten. Die Menschen werden Richter über ihr eigenes Verhalten. Ihre Philosophie lautet: »Wenn du ein gutes Gefühl dabei hast, dann tu es ruhig.« Und wenn man sagen kann, dass »es doch alle so machen«, dann ist das schon Rechtfertigung genug.
Auf diese Weise verwildern die Menschen. Sie lassen sich zu Unzucht, Ehebruch und Homosexualität hinreißen. Kriminalität und Gewalttätigkeit steigen bedrohlich an. Bestechung breitet sich überall in der Wirtschaft und Regierung aus. Lügen und Betrügen wird zur anerkannten Verhaltensform. Und der Stoff, aus dem die Gesellschaft gemacht ist, löst sich langsam auf.
»Aber wohl ihm, wenn es das Gesetz beachtet.« Selbst wenn der Rest der Welt sich austobt, kann der einzelne Gläubige das gute Leben darin finden, dass er an Gottes Wort glaubt und ihm gehorcht. Das ist der einzige Weg, den wir gehen sollen.
