“Our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” (Psa. 115:3)
God is sovereign. That means that He is the supreme Ruler of the universe, and that He can do as He pleases. But having said that, we must quickly add that what God pleases is always right. His way is perfect.
Isaiah quotes the Lord as saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my Pleasure” (Isa. 46:10). When Nebuchadnezzar was restored to his right mind, he said, “He doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Dan. 4:35). The Apostle Paul insists that man has no right to question God’s actions: “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” (Rom. 9:20). And in another place he speaks of God as the One “who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Eph. 1:11).
Spurgeon said, “We proclaim an enthroned God, and His right to do as He wills with His own, to dispose of His creatures as He thinks well, without consulting them in the matter.”
To put it very simply, the doctrine of the sovereignty of God is a doctrine that allows God to be God.
It is a truth that fills me with reverence and awe. I cannot comprehend all its ramifications, but I can worship and adore.
It is a truth that moves me to submit myself to Him. He is the Potter; I am the clay. He has rights to me by creation and redemption. Under no circumstances should I talk back to Him or question His decisions.
It is a truth that is full of comfort. Since He is the supreme Ruler, I know that He is working out His purposes and that they will reach their desired end.
Though there are things in life I can’t understand, I can be sure that the dark threads are as necessary for His weaving as the threads of gold and silver.

தேவனின் இறையாண்மை
தேவன் இறையாண்மை உடையவர். அதாவது, அவரே இப்பிரபஞ்சத்தின் ஒப்புயர்வற்ற ஆளுநர். தாம் விரும்புகிறவை அனைத்தையும் அவரால் செய்யமுடியும். இவ்வாறு கூறுங்கால், ஒரு உண்மையை உடனடியாகச் சொல்ல வேண்டியவர்களாகயிருக்கிறோம். அவர் விரும்புகிறவை அனைத்தும் நேர்மையாகவே இருக்கும். அவர் வழி குறைவற்றது.
கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறதாக ஏசாயா மேற்கோள் காட்டுகிறான், ‘என் ஆலோசனை நிலைநிற்கும், எனக்குச் சித்தமானவைகளையெல்லாம் செய்வேன்” (ஏசாயா 46:10). நேபுகாத்நேச்சார் தனது நல்ல மனநிலைக்கு மீண்டும் வந்தபோது, ‘அவர் தமது சித்தத்தின்படியே வானத்தின் சேனைகளையும், பூமியின் குடிகளையும் நடத்துகிறார், அவருடைய கையைத் தடுத்து, அவரை நோக்கி, என்ன செய்கிறீரென்று சொல்லத்தக்கவன் ஒருவனுமில்லை.” என்று கூறினான் (தானியேல் 4:35). தேவனுடைய செயல்களைக் குறித்துக் கேள்வி எழுப்ப மனிதனுக்கு எவ்வித உரிமையுமில்லை என்று பவுல் கூறுகிறார். ‘அப்படியானால், மனுஷனே, தேவனோடு எதிர்த்துத் தர்க்கிக்கிற நீ யார்? உருவாக்கப்பட்ட வஸ்து உருவாக்கினவனை நோக்கி, நீ என்னை ஏன் இப்படி உண்டாக்கினாயென்று சொல்லலாமா?” (ரோமர் 9:20). வேறொரு இடத்தில் தேவனைக்குறித்து, ‘தமது சித்தத்தின் ஆலோசனைக்குத்தக்கதாக எல்லவற்றையும் நடப்பிக்கிறவர்” என்று அவர் கூறியுள்ளார் (எபேசி.1:12).
‘முடிசூட்டப்படுள்ள இறைவனை நாங்கள் அறிவிக்கிறோம். தமக்குரியவற்றைத் தமக்குச் சித்தமானபடி செய்ய உரிமையுடையவர் அவர். தமக்கு நலமானபடி தம்முடைய சிருஷ்டிகளை நடத்துகிறார். தமது சிருஷ்டியாகிய மனிதர்களோடு செய்யப்போகிறதைக் குறித்து அவர் ஆலோசனை செய்கிறதில்லை” என்று திருவாளர் ஸ்பர்ஜன் கூறியுள்ளார்.
தேவனை தேவனாக நடந்துகொள்ள அனுமதிப்பதே தேவஇறையாண்மைக் கொள்கையாகும். இந்த உண்மை என் உள்ளத்தில் கனத்தையும், பயபக்தியையும் உண்டாக்குகிறது. இந்த உண்மையில் அடங்கியுள்ள பல கூறுகளை என்னால் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடிகிறதில்லை. ஆனால் அவரைத் தொழுதுகொள்ளவும் உயர்த்திப்போற்றவும் இது செய்கிறது.
இவ்வுண்மை என்னோடு ஈடுபட்டு, என்னை அவருக்கு ஒப்புவிக்கச் செய்கிறது. அவர் குயவனாக இருக்கிறார். நான் களிமண்ணாக இருக்கிறேன். எனது படைப்பாளராகவும் எனது மீட்பராகவும் இருந்து என்மீது அவர் முழு ஆளுகையும் உடையவராக இருக்கிறார். எச்சூழ்நிலையிலும் நான் அவரை எதிர்த்துப்பேசக்கூடாது. அவரைக் கேள்வி கேட்கக்கூடாது.
இவ்வுண்மையில் நிறைவான ஆறுதல் இருக்கிறது. அவர் சர்வ அதிகாரமுடைய மன்னர், தமது நோக்கங்கள் நிறைவேறுதற்கான செயல்களைச் செய்கிறார். விரும்பத்தக்க முடிவுகளை அச்செயல்கள் உண்டாக்கும்.
எனது வாழ்வில் நடக்கும் சில நிகழ்ச்சிகளை என்னால் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடிகிறதில்லை. ஆனால், பொன்னினாலும் வெள்ளியினாலும் அவர் நெய்யும்போது சில கறுப்பு நிறநூல்களும் அவருக்குத் தேவையாக உள்ளன.

»Aber unser Gott ist in den Himmeln; alles, was ihm wohlgefällt, tut er.« Psalm 115,3
Gott ist souverän. Das bedeutet, dass Er der absolute Herrscher über das Universum ist und dass Er alles tun kann, was Ihm gefällt. Doch fügen wir schnell hinzu, dass das, was Gott gefällt, auch immer richtig ist. Seine Wege sind vollkommen.
In Jesaja sagt der Herr: »Mein Ratschluss soll zustande kommen, und all mein Wohlgefallen werde ich tun« (46,10). Als Nebukadnezar von seinem Wahnsinn geheilt war, sagte er: »Nach seinem Willen tut er mit dem Heere des Himmels und mit den Bewohnern der Erde; und da ist niemand, der seiner Hand wehren und zu ihm sagen könnte: Was tust du?« (Daniel 4,35). Der Apostel Paulus betont, dass der Mensch kein Recht hat, Gottes Handlungen in Frage zu stellen: »Ja freilich, o Mensch, wer bist du, der du das Wort nimmst wider Gott? Wird etwa das Geformte
zu dem Former sagen: Warum hast du mich also gemacht?« (Römer 9,20). Und an einer anderen Stelle spricht er von Gott als dem, »der alles wirkt nach dem Rate seines Willens« (Epheser 1,11).
Spurgeon sagte: »Wir verkündigen einen thronenden Gott und Sein Recht, mit dem Seinen zu handeln, wie Er will, über Seine Geschöpfe zu verfügen, wie Er es für gut hält, ohne dabei nach ihrer Meinung zu fragen.«
Um es einfach zu sagen, die Lehre von der Souveränität Gottes ist die Lehre, die Gott Gott sein lässt.
Es ist die Wahrheit, die mich mit ehrfürchtigem Staunen erfüllt. Ich kann nicht alle ihre Details begreifen, aber ich kann Gott dafür verehren und anbeten.
Es ist eine Wahrheit, die mich dazu bringt, mich Ihm zu unterwerfen. Er ist der Töpfer, ich bin der Ton. Er hat ein Recht auf mich sowohl durch die Schöpfung als auch durch die Erlösung. Unter keinen Umständen sollte ich Ihm widersprechen oder Seine Entscheidungen in Frage stellen.
Es ist eine Wahrheit, die voller Trost ist. Da Er der souveräne Herrscher ist, weiß ich, dass Er Seine Pläne ausführt und dass sie ihr bestimmtes Ziel erreichen.
Obwohl es Dinge im Leben gibt, die ich nicht verstehen kann, kann ich sicher sein, dass die dunklen Fäden für Seine Webarbeit ebenso nötig sind wie die goldenen und silbernen.
