No Fear of Death

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; he that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. (Revelation 2:11)

The first death we must endure unless the Lord should suddenly come to His temple. For this let us abide in readiness, awaiting it without fear, since Jesus has transformed death from a dreary cavern into a passage leading to glory.

The thing to be feared is not the first but the second death, not the parting of the soul from the body but the final separation of the entire man from God. This is death indeed. This death kills all peace, joy, happiness, hope. When God is gone, all is gone. Such a death is far worse than ceasing to be: it is existence without the life which makes existence worth the having.

Now, if by God’s grace we fight on to the end and conquer in the glorious war, no second death can lay its chill finger upon us, We shall have no fear of death and hell, for we shall receive a crown of life which fadeth not away. How this nerves us for the fight! Eternal life is worth a life’s battle. To escape the hurt of the second death is a thing worth struggling for throughout a lifetime.

Lord, give us faith so that we may overcome, and then grant us grace to remain unharmed though sin and Satan dog our heels!

மரணத்தைக் குறித்து அச்சமில்லை

ஆவியானவர் சபைகளுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறதைக் காதுள்ளவன் கேட்கக்கடவன். ஜெயங்கொள்ளுகிறவன் இரண்டாம் மரணத்தினால் சேதப்படுவதில்லை (வெளி 2:11).

ஆண்டவர் தம்முடைய ஆலயத்துக்குத் திடீரென்று வந்துவிட்டாலன்றி முதல் மரணத்தை நாம் அனுபவிக்க வேண்டியதிருக்கும் மரணம் துயரார்ந்த கிடங்கு அல்ல. அது மகிமைக்குச் செல்லும் வழியேயாகும் என்று இயேசு மாற்றி அமைத்துள்ளபடியால் நாம் அச்சமின்றி அதற்காக ஆயத்தத்துடன் காத்திருப்போமாக.

முதல் மரணத்தைக் குறித்து அல்ல இரண்டாம் மரணத்தைக் குறித்தே நாம் அச்சம் கொள்ளவேண்டியதாகும். அதாவது ஆன்மா சரீரத்தை விட்டுப் பிரிவதைக் குறித்ததல்ல, இறுதியாகக் கடவுளிடமிருந்து மனிதன் முழுவதுமாகப் பிரிக்கப்படுவதைக் குறித்தே அச்சம் கொள்ளவேண்டும். இதுதான் உண்மையான மரணமாகும். இந்த மரணம் சமாதானம் சந்தோஷம் நம்பிக்கை எல்லாவற்றையும்
அழித்துவிடுகிறது. கடவுள் இல்லாவிட்டால் ஓன்றும் இல்லை. நாம் உயிரோடு இருப்பதைவிட இந்தவிமான மரணம் பயங்கரமானது.

கடவுளின் கிருபையினால் நாம் இறுதிவரை போராடி மகிமையான யுத்தத்தில் வெற்றிபெற்றால் இரண்டாவது மரணம் நம்மைத் தொடமுடியாது. மரணத்தை குறித்தும் நரகத்தைக் குறித்தும் நாம் பயப்படவேண்டியதில்லை. ஏனெனில் நாம் நித்திய வாழ்வின் வாடாத கிரீடத்தைப் பெறுவோம். இந்த நம்பிக்கை போர் செய்ய நமக்கு ஊக்கம் அளிக்கிறது. நித்திய வாழ்வுக்காக வாழ்நாளெல்லாம் போர் புரியலாம். இரண்டாவது மரணத்தினால் சேதப்படாமலிருக்க வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் எதிர்த்துப் போராடலாம்.

ஆண்டவரே மேற்கொள்வதற்கான நம்பிக்கையை எங்களுக்கு அருளும். சாத்தானும் பாவமும் எங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து வந்தாலும் சேதம் அடையாமலிக்கும்
கிருபையை அருளிச் செய்யும்.

„Wer Ohren hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt: Wer überwindet, dem soll kein Leid geschehen von dem andren Tode.“ Offb. 2, 11.

Den ersten Tod müssen wir erdulden, falls nicht der Herr plötzlich zu seinem Tempel kommen sollte. Lasst uns in Bereitschaft bleiben und ihn ohne Furcht erwarten, da Jesus den Tod aus einer finsteren Höhle in einen Durchgang zur Herrlichkeit verwandelt hat.

Das, was zu fürchten, ist nicht der erste, sondern der zweite Tod; nicht das Scheiden der Seele vom Körper, sondern die schließliche Trennung des ganzen Menschen von Gott. Dies ist der wahre Tod. Dieser Tod tötet Frieden, Freude, Glück und Hoffnung. Wenn Gott geschwunden ist, so ist alles geschwunden. Solch ein Tod ist weit schlimmer als aufhören zu sein: es ist Dasein ohne das Leben, welches das Dasein des Habens wert macht.

Nun, wenn wir durch Gottes Gnade bis zum Ende streiten und überwinden in dem glorreichen Kampf, so kann kein zweiter Tod seinen kalten Finger auf uns legen. Wir werden keine Furcht vor Tod und Hölle haben, denn wir sollen eine unverwelkliche Krone des Lebens empfangen. Wie stählt uns dies für den Streit! Das ewige Leben ist des Kampfes eines ganzen Lebens würdig. Dem Leid des zweiten Todes entgehen, ist etwas, das wert ist, eine Lebenszeit hindurch darum zu ringen.

Herr, gib uns Glauben, auf dass wir überwinden, und dann gewähre uns Gnade, unverletzt zu bleiben, ob Sünde und Satan auch unseren Fersen folgen!
