Heavy-Duty Shoes
Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. (Deuteronomy 33:25)
Here are two things provided for the pilgrim: shoes and strength.
As for the shoes: they are very needful for traveling along rough ways and for trampling upon deadly foes. We shall not go barefoot—this would not be suitable for princes of the blood royal. Our shoes shall not be at all of the common sort, for they shall have soles of durable metal, which will not wear out even if the journey be long and difficult. We shall have protection proportionate to the necessities of the road and the battle. Wherefore let us march boldly on, fearing no harm even though we tread on serpents or set our foot upon the dragon himself.
As for the strength: it shall be continued as long as our days shall continue, and it shall be proportioned to the stress and burden of those days. The words are few, “as thy days thy strength,” but the meaning is full. This day we may look for trial, and for work which will require energy, but we may just as confidently look for equal strength. This word given to Asher is given to us also who have faith wherewith to appropriate it. Let us rise to the holy boldness which it is calculated to create within the believing heart.

கடும் உழைப்புக்குரிய பாதரட்சைகள்
இரும்பும் வெண்கலமும் உன் பாதரட்சையின் கீழிருக்கும். உன் நாட்களுக்குத் தக்கதாய் உன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் (உபா.33:25).
பயணம் செய்பவர்களுக்குத் தேவையான இரண்டு நமக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படுவதாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. அவை பாதரட்சைகளும் பெலனும் ஆகும். பாதரட்சைகள் கரடுமுரடான இடங்களில் நடந்து செல்லவும் பயங்கரமான எதிரிகளை மிதித்து வைக்கவும் இவை தேவை. நாம் வெறுங்காலோடு நடக்கவேண்டியதில்லை. இந்தப்பாதரட்சைகள் அரசபரம்பரையினருக்கு ஏற்றவையாக இரா. சாதரணமானவையாகவும் இரா. ஏனெனில் அவற்றின் அடிப்பாகம் இரும்பினாலும் வெண்கலத்தினாலும் ஆனது. பிரயாணம் நீண்டதாயும் கடுமை வாய்ந்ததாயும் இருந்தாலும் அவை தேய்ந்து விடாமலிருக்கும். நாம்செல்லும் பாதைக்கும் செய்யும் போருக்கும் தேவையானளவு பாதுகாப்பு நமக்கு இருக்கும். ஆகையால் நாம் சர்ப்பத்தின் மேல் நடக்கவேண்டியிருந்தாலும் வேதாளத்தையே மிதிக்க வேண்டியிருந்தாலும் நமக்குத் தீங்கு நேரிட்டு விடுமோ என்னும் பயம் இல்லாமல் முன்னேறிச் செல்வோமாக!
பெலன் – நம் நாட்களுக்குத் தக்கதாய் நம் பெலனும் இருக்கும். அந்நாட்களின் நெருக்கடிக்கும் இடுக்கண்களுக்கும் ஏற்ற அளவும் இருக்கும். உன் நாட்களுக்குத் தக்கதாய் உன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்பது சுருக்கமாய் இருந்தாலும் பொருள் நிறைந்தது. இன்று ஒரு வேளைசோதனைகள் ஏற்படலாம். வேலை செய்ய அதிகமான ஆற்றல் தேவைப்படலாம். அவற்றிற்குத் தேவையான அளவு பெலனும் கிடைக்கும் என்றும் எதிர்பார்க்கலாம். ஆசேருக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட இந்த வாக்குறுதி நமக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டதாகும் என்று நம்புகிறவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் இது உரியதாகும்.இதை விசுவாசிக்கிறவர்களுக்கு ஏற்படும் தைரியம் நமக்கும் ஏற்படட்டும்.

„Deine Schuhe sollen Eisen und Erz sein; und wie deine Tage soll deine Kraft sein.“ 5. Mose 33, 25.
Hier sind zwei Dinge für den Pilgrim bereitet: Schuhe und Kraft. Z u e r s t d i e S c h u h e : sie sind sehr nötig, um auf rauhen Wegen zu wandern und auf tödliche Feinde zu treten. Wir sollen nicht barfuß gehen – dies würde sich nicht ziemen für Prinzen von königlichem Blut. Unsere Schuhe sollen durchaus nicht von gewöhnlicher Art sein, sondern Sohlen von dauerhaftem Metall haben, das sich nicht abnutzt, auch wenn die Reise lang und schwierig ist. Wir sollen Schutz haben, der den Bedürfnissen des Weges und des Kampfes angemessen ist. Deshalb lasst uns kühn vorwärts ziehen und kein Übel fürchten, ob wir auch auf Schlangen treten oder unseren Fuß auf den Drachen selber setzen.
Z w e i t e n s d i e K r a f t : sie soll währen, solange unsre Tage währen, und sie soll zu der Arbeit und Bürde dieser Tage im Verhältnis stehen. Es sind wenige Worte: „Wie deine Tage, so deine Kraft,“ aber sie enthalten viel. Diesen Tag mögen wir Leiden erwarten und Arbeit, die Energie erfordert, aber wir können ebenso zuversichtlich die entsprechende Kraft erwarten. Dieses Wort, das Asser gegeben wurde, ist auch uns gegeben, die da Glauben haben, um es sich anzueignen. Lasst uns zu der heiligen Kühnheit uns erheben, die es in den gläubigen Herzen erschaffen will.
