In Calm Repose
I will make them to lie down safely. (Hosea 2:18)
Yes, the saints are to have peace. The passage from which this gracious word is taken speaks of peace “with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground.” This is peace with earthly enemies, with mysterious evils, and with little annoyances! Any of these might keep us from lying down, but none of them shall do so. The Lord will quite destroy those things which threaten His people: “I will break the bow and the sword, and the battle out of the earth.” Peace will be profound indeed when all the instruments of disquiet are broken to pieces.
With this peace will come rest, “So he giveth his beloved sleep.” Fully supplied and divinely quieted, believers lie down in calm repose. This rest will be a safe one. It is one thing to lie down but quite another “to lie down safely.” We are brought to the land of promise, the house of the Father, the chamber of love, and the bosom of Christ: surely we may now “lie down safely.” It is safer for a believer to lie down in peace than to sit up and worry.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,” We never rest till the Comforter makes us lie down.

அயர்ந்து இளைப்பாறுதல்
அவர்களைச் சுகமாகப் படுத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கப்பண்ணுவேன் (ஓசி.2:18).
ஆம், விசுவாசிகள் சமாதானம் உள்ளவர்களாய் இருப்பார்கள். மேற்கூறிய வாக்கியம் வரும் பகுதி காட்டு மிருகங்களோடும், ஆகாயத்துப் பறவைகளோடும், பூமியிலே ஊரும் பிராணிகளோடும் சமாதானமாயிருப்பதைக் குறித்துக் கூறுகிறது. இது உலகிலுள்ள எதிரிகள், விளக்கமற்ற கேடுகள், சிறு சிறு தொல்லைகள் மத்தியில்கிடைக்கும் சமாதானம் ஆகும். இவற்றில் ஏதாவது ஒன்று நாம் சுகமாய்ப் படுத்துக் கொள்வதற்குத் தடையாய் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் ஒன்றும் அவ்விதத் தடை ஏற்படுத்தாது. நம் மக்களை அச்சுறுத்தும் எல்லாவற்றையும் ஆண்டவர் முழுவதுமாக அழித்து விடுவார். வில்லையும், பட்டயத்தையும், யுத்தத்தையும் தேசத்தில் இராதபடிக்கு முறித்து விடுவேன்.
அமைதியின்மை ஏற்படுத்தக் கூடிய கருவிகள் எல்லாம் தூள் தூளாக உடைக்கப்பட்டபின் ஆழ்ந்த சமாதானம் நிலைத்திருக்கும். இப்படிப்பட்ட சமாதானத்தோடு இளைப்பாறுதல் கிடைக்கும். அவரே தமக்குப்பிரியமானவனுக்கு நித்திரை அளிக்கிறார். இவ்விதம் தேவையானவை எல்லாம் கிடைக்கப் பெற்று, கடவுளால் அமைதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டு விசுவாசிகள் அயர்ந்து இளைப்பாறுவதோடு பாதுகாப்புடனும் இளைப்பாறுகிறார்கள். சுகமாய்ப் படுத்துக்கொள்வது, சாதாரணமாகப் படுத்துக்கொள்வதைப்போன்றது மட்டுமல்ல. நாம் சுகமாகப்படுத்துக் கொள்ள வாக்குப்பண்ணப்பட்ட நாட்டுக்கும், பிதாவின் வீட்டுக்கும், அன்பின் கூடத்துக்கும், கிறிஸ்துவின் சமூகத்திற்கும் அழைத்துச் செல்லப்படுகிறோம். இப்போது நாம் மெய்யாகவே சுகமாய்ப்படுத்துக் கொள்ளலாம். விசுவாசிக்கு உட்கார்ந்திருந்து கவலைப்படுவதைவிட சமாதானத்தோடு படுத்துக் கொள்வது பாதுகாப்பானதாகும்.
அவர் என்னைப் புல்லுள்ள இடங்களில் மேய்க்கிறார் என்று சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது. தேற்றரவாளன் நம்மைப் படுத்துக்கொள்ளச் சொல்லும்வரை நாம் உண்மையான இளைப்பாறுதல் பெறுவதில்லை.

„Ich will sie sicher niederliegen lassen.“ Hos. 2, 18.
Ja , die Heiligen sollen Frieden haben . Die Stelle, aus der dieses Gnadenwort genommen ist, spricht von Frieden „mit den Tieren auf dem Felde, mit den Vögeln unter dem Himmel und mit dem Gewürm auf Erden.“ Dies ist Friede mit irdischen Feinden, mit geheimnisvollen Übeln und mit kleinen Verdrießlichkeiten! Eines von diesen möchte uns schon vom Niederliegen abhalten, aber keines soll es tun. Der Herr wird diese Dinge ganz zerstören, die sein Volk bedrohen: „Ich will Bogen, Schwert und Krieg vom Lande zerbrechen.“ Der Friede wird in der Tat tief sein, wenn alle Werkzeuge der Unruhe in Stücke zerbrochen sind.
Mit diesem Frieden wird Ruhe kommen . „Er gibt seinen Freunden Schlaf.“ (Ps. 127, 2.) Völlig versorgt und göttlich beruhigt legen sich die Gläubigen in gelassener Stille nieder.
Diese Ruhe wird eine sichere sein . Sich niederlegen ist eines, aber „sich sicher niederlegen“ ist etwas anderes. Es ist sicherer für einen Gläubigen, sich in Frieden niederzulegen, als aufzusitzen und sich zu ängstigen.
„Er lässt mich niederliegen auf grünen Auen.“ (Ps. 23, 2.) Wir ruhen nie, bis der Tröster uns niederliegen heißt.
