“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” (Psa. 145:3)
The thought of God is undoubtedly the greatest thought that can occupy the human mind. Great thoughts of God ennoble all of life. Small thoughts of God destroy those who hold them.
God is very great. After a magnificent description of the power and majesty of God, Job said, “Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways: and how small a whisper do we hear of him! but the thunder of his power who can understand?” (Job 26:14 RV). We see only the fringes, and hear only a whisper!
The Psalmist reminds us that the glance of God produces an earthquake and His touch precipitates volcanic eruptions (Psa. 104:32).
The Lord has to humble Himself to behold things in heaven (Psa. 113:6). He is so great that He calls the stars by name (Psa. 147:4).
When Isaiah tells us that the train of God’s glory fills the Temple (Isa. 6:1), he leaves us to imagine how great the full display of His glory must be. Later he pictures God as measuring the oceans in the hollow of His hand and measuring the skies by the width of His spread hand (Isa. 40:12). To Him the nations are a drop in a bucket or the dust on the scales (40:15). All the forests of Lebanon and all its animals would not be sufficient to make a suitable burnt offering to Him (40:16).
The prophet Nahum says, “The Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3).
In the midst of another breathtaking description of the glory of God, Habakkuk says, “and there was the hiding of his power” (Hab. 3:4). All of which says that human language breaks down in any attempt to picture the greatness of God.
As we contemplate some of the attributes of God in the next few days, they should lead us to:
· Wonder—because He is wonderful.
· Worship—because of Who He is and all He has done for us.
· Trust—because He is worthy of our full, undivided confidence.
· Serve—because it is one of life’s greatest privileges to serve such a Master.
· Imitate—because His will is that we should be more and more like Him.
(However, there are some attributes of God, such as His wrath, that we should not imitate, and others, such as His infinity, that we cannot imitate.)

ஆய்வுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவர்
மனித உள்ளத்தை நிரப்பும் சிந்தனைகளில் தேவனைக் குறித்த சிந்தனையே மிகவும் மேன்மையானதாகும். தேவனைக் குறித்து மேன்மையான சிந்தனை வாழ்க்கை முழுவதையும் மேன்மைப்படுத்தும். தேவனைக் குறித்த அற்பமான எண்ணங்கள், அவ்வாறு சிந்திக்கிறவர்களை அழிந்துவிடும்.
கர்த்தர் மிகவும் பெரியவர். தேவனுடைய வல்லமையையும் மாட்சிமையையும் சீரிய முறையில் விளக்கிய பின்பு யோபு, ‘இதோ, இவை அவருடைய கிரியையில் கடைக்கோடியானவை, அவரைக் குறித்து நாங்கள் கேட்டது எவ்வளவு கொஞ்சம், அவருடைய வல்லமையின் இடிமுழக்கத்தை அறிந்தவன் யார்”. எனக் கூறினான் (யோபு 26:14). நாம் ஆடையின் தொங்கலை மட்டும் பார்க்கிறோம். மெல்லிய சத்தத்தை மட்டுமே கேட்கிறோம்.
தேவனுடைய பார்வை பூமியதிர்ச்சியை உண்டாக்கும். அவர் பர்வதங்களைத் தொடும்போது எரிமலை பொங்கிவரும் என்று சங்கீத பாடலாசிரியர் நம்மை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறார். (சங்.104:32).
வானத்தில் உள்ளவைகளைக் காண, கர்த்தர் தம்மைத் தாழ்த்துகிறார் (சங்.113:6). நட்சத்திரங்களைப் பெயர் சொல்லி அழைக்கக்கூடிய மகத்துவமானவராக அவர் இருக்கிறார் (சங்.47:4).
தேவனுடைய ஆடையின் தொங்கலால் தேவாலயம் நிறைந்தது (ஏசா.6:1) என்று ஏசாயா சொல்லுகிறபோது, அவருடைய மகிமை முழுவதும் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டால் அது எவ்வளவு பெரிதாக இருக்கும் என்று நம்மைக் கற்பனை செய்து காணும்படிச் செய்கிறான். பெருங்கடல்களைக் கைப்பிடியால் அளக்கிறவர், வானங்களை ஜாணளவாய் எண்ணுகிறவர் என்று அவன் பின்னர் தேவனுடைய மகிமையைச் சித்தரிக்கிறான் (ஏசா.40:12). பல நாட்டு மக்கள் அவர் முன்னர் நீர்துளி போன்றவர்கள் என்றும் (ஏசா.40:15), லீபனோனும் அதினுள்ள விலங்குகளும் அவருக்குச் செலுத்த வேண்டிய தகனப்பலிக்குப் போதாது என்றும் கூறுகிறான் (ஏசா.40:16). நாகூர் தீர்க்கதரிசி, ‘கர்த்தருடைய வழி சுழல் காற்றிலும் பெருங்காற்றிலும் இருக்கிறது. மேகங்கள் அவருடைய பாதத்தூளாயிருக்கிறது” என்று கூறினான் (நாகூம் 1:3).
நம்மை வியப்பிற்குள் ஆழ்த்தும் வகையில் தேவனுடைய மகிமையைப் பற்றி விளக்கிய பின்னர், ஆபகூக், ‘அங்கே அவருடைய பராக்கிரமம் மறைந்திருக்கிறது” என்று உரைக்கிறான் (ஆப.3:4). இவை எல்லாவற்றிலும் தேவனுடைய மகத்துவத்தை விளக்க முயன்றால் மனித மொழிகள் அனைத்தும் நொருங்கிச் சிதறிப்போம்.
அடுத்துவரும் சிலநாட்களில் தேவனுடைய தனிச்சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த பண்புகளை நாம் சிந்திக்கும் வேளையில், அவை நம்மை பின்வருமாறு நடத்த வேண்டும்.
வியப்படைய வேண்டும். ஏனெனில் அவர் அதிசயமானவர், அவரை நாம் ஆராதிக்க வேண்டும், அவர் யார் என்பதாலும், அவர் நமக்கு என்ன செய்தார் என்பதாலும் அவரை ஆராதிக்க வேண்டும். அவரை நம்ப வேண்டும். நமது முழுநம்பிக்கைக்கும் அவரே தகுதிபடைத்தவர். அவருக்கே சேவைபுரிய வேண்டும். இப்பேற்பட்ட எஜமானுக்கு சேவைபுரிதல் ஒருவரது வாழ்வில் கிடைக்கும் மாபெரும் சிலாக்கியம். அவரைப் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும். நாம் அவருக்கு ஒப்பாக மாறவேண்டுமென்பது அவருடைய சித்தமாயிருக்கிறது. (ஆயினும் அவருக்கே உரித்தான சில பண்புகள் உள்ளன. எடுத்துக்காட்டாக தேவகோபம் என்னும் அவரது பண்பை நாம் பின்பற்றக் கூடாது. மற்றும் அவருடைய முடிவில்லா மாபெரிய தன்மை போன்றவற்றை நம்மால் பின்பற்ற முடியாது).

»Groß ist der Herr und sehr zu loben. Seine Größe ist unerforschlich.« Psalm 145,3
Über Gott nachzudenken, ist ohne Zweifel das Erhabenste, womit sich das menschliche Denken beschäftigen kann. Erhabene Gedanken über Gott veredeln jeden Aspekt des Lebens. Geringschätziges Denken über Gott zerstört die, die es pflegen.
Gott ist sehr groß. Nach einer erhabenen Beschreibung der Macht und Majestät Gottes sagte Hiob: »Siehe, das sind die Säume seiner Wege; und wie wenig haben wir von ihm gehört! Und den Donner seiner Macht, wer versteht ihn?« (Hiob 26,14). Wir sehen nur die Säume Seiner Wege und hören nur »wenig« (wörtl. »ein flüsterndes Wort«) von Ihm!
Der Psalmist macht deutlich, dass der bloße Blick Gottes die Erde beben lässt und Seine Berührung zu Vulkanausbrüchen führt (Psalm 104,32).
Der Herr muss sich herabneigen, um die Dinge im Himmel anzuschauen (Psalm 113,6). Er ist so groß, dass Er die Sterne alle mit Namen nennt (Psalm 147,4).
Wenn Jesaja sagt, dass die Schleppen von Gottes Herrlichkeit den Tempel erfüllten (Jesaja 6,1), dann überlässt er es unserer Vorstellungskraft, wie gewaltig die volle Erscheinung Seiner Herrlichkeit sein muss. Später schildert er Gott als den, der die Ozeane mit Seiner hohlen Hand misst und die Himmel mit Seiner Spanne abgrenzt (Jesaja 40,12). Für Ihn sind die Nationen
wie ein Tropfen am Eimer oder ein Sandkorn auf der Waagschale (40,15). Alle Wälder des Libanongebirges und alle seine Tiere würden nicht ausreichen zu einem Seiner Größe würdigen Brandopfer (40,16).
Der Prophet Nahum sagt: »Der Herr – im Sturmwind und im Gewitter ist sein Weg, und Gewölk ist der Staub seiner Füße« (Nahum 1,3).
Mitten in einer weiteren atemberaubenden Schilderung der Herrlichkeit Gottes sagt Habakuk: »Und daselbst ist die Hülle seiner Macht« (Habakuk 3,4). Damit meint er, dass sich die menschliche Sprache einfach bei jedem Versuch einer Beschreibung Seiner Herrlichkeit erschöpft.
Wenn wir in den nächsten Tagen einige der Eigenschaften Gottes betrachten, dann sollte uns das bewegen zu:
Bewunderung – weil Er wunderbar ist.
Anbetung – über das, was Er ist, und alles, was Er für uns getan hat.
Vertrauen – weil Er unseres vollen ungeteilten Vertrauens würdig ist.
Dienst – weil es eines der größten Vorrechte im Leben ist,
einem solchen Herrn zu dienen.
Nachahmung – weil es Sein Wille ist, dass wir Ihm immer ähnlicher werden.
