“Christ is all.” (Col. 3:11)
There is a tendency for us Christians to spend a great deal of our time looking for new spiritual experiences that will somehow guarantee permanent victory or freedom from the ups and downs of daily living. We rush around to conventions, conferences, seminars and workshops in search of the elusive magic formula that will smooth out the rough places of life. Glossy brochures assure us that Dr. So-and-So will share a great new breakthrough that will make us radioactive with the Spirit. Or some zealous neighbor insists on dragging us to the Municipal Auditorium to hear about a recently discovered shortcut to the abundant life.
The lures are legion. One preacher offers the royal road to fulfillment. Another advertises the threefold secret of victory. Now we go to a seminar on keys to the deeper life. The next week there is a convention on five easy steps to holiness. We surge forward for an altarcall experience by which we will receive the filling of the Spirit. Or we become obsessed with healing of the body as if that were the most important thing in life. One minute we are off on a Christian psychology kick, the next on healing of the memories. We compass land and sea for some new spiritual high.
There is no doubt that many of these speakers are sincere and that there is value in some of the things that they say. But we return to the nitty-gritty of life to find that there is no short cut to holiness, that the problems are still there, and that we must live day by day in dependence on the Lord.
Eventually we should learn that it is better to be occupied with the Lord Jesus than with experiences. There is no disappointment in Him. We have all we need in Him. He is the all-sufficient One.
A. B. Simpson spent the early part of his life in the quest for experiences, but he found that they didn’t satisfy. Then he wrote the lovely hymn entitled “Himself,” the first verse and chorus of which are as follows:
Once it was the blessing, now it is the Lord;
Once it was the feeling, now it is His Word;
Once His gifts I wanted, now the Giver own;
Once I sought for healing, now Himself alone.
All in all forever, Jesus will I sing;
Everything in Jesus, And Jesus everything.

கிறிஸ்துவே போதுமானவர்
அனுதின வாழ்வில் உண்டாகக்கூடிய ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகளிலிருந்து நிலையான வெற்றியையும், விடுதலையையும் தரக்கூடிய புதிய ஆவிக்குரிய அனுபவங்கயை நாடி, நேரத்தை மிகுதியாகச் செலவிடக்கூடிய மனப்பான்மையை கிறிஸ்தவர்களாகிய நாம் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். சிறப்புக்கூட்டங்களுக்கும், கலந்துரையாடல்களுக்கும், கருதரங்குகளுக்கும், செயற்பயிற்சிமுகாம்களுக்கும் செல்லும் நாம் அங்கே, கரடுமுரடான வாழ்க்கைப்பகுதி சீர்பொருந்த வியத்தகு முறையில் ஏதாவது வழி பிறக்கும் என்று கருதுகிறோம். ‘ஆவியில் நிறைந்து செயல்படுவதற்கு அதிசய வழிகள்” தருகிறார் பிரசங்கி…. என்னும் விளம்பரங்கள் நமக்கு நம்பிக்கை தருகின்றன. வாழ்வில் நிறைவைப் பெறுவதற்குக் குறுக்கு வழியைக் கண்டுபிடித்த பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரர், தனது வைராக்கியத்தின் நிமித்தம் கட்டாயப்படுத்தி நம்மை அருகில் நடக்கும் ‘எழுப்புதல்” கூட்டத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்கிறார்.
ஆசைகாட்டி கவர்ந்திழுக்கும் நிகழ்ச்சிகள் பெரும் எண்ணிக்கையில் நம்மைச் சூழந்;திருக்கின்றன. இராஜரீக பாதையில் சென்று நமது நோக்கத்தை அடையலாம் என்று அழைப்பு விடுக்கிறார் ஒரு பிரசங்கியார். மற்றொருவர் வெற்றிபெறுவதற்கான மூன்றத்தனையான இரகசியத்தைச் சொல்லித் தருவதாக விளம்பரம் செய்கிறார். தெய்வீக வாழ்வை வாழ்வதற்கான வழியை கற்பிக்கும் கருத்தரங்கிற்கு இப்பொழுது நாம் செல்கிறோம். அடுத்த வாரத்தில், பரிசுத்தத்தை அடைய ஐந்து எளிய படிகள் என்ற தலைப்பில் ஒரு முகாம் நடக்கிறது. மேடை அழைப்பு விடுவிக்கப்படும்போது, அங்கே பரிசுத்த ஆவியின் நிறைவு கிடைக்கும் என்று மேடையை நோக்கி விரைவாகச் செல்கிறோம். வாழ்க்கையில் உடல் நலமே மிகவும் இன்றியமையாதது என்று கருதி, அதற்கென விடுக்கப்படுகிற அழைப்பில் கலந்துகொண்டு அலைக்கழிக்கப்படுகிறோம். ஒரு மணித்துளி கிறிஸ்தவ மனநிலையில் உற்சாகத்தை இழந்து தவிக்கிறோம். மறுநொடியில் முந்தின நினைவுகளை மறந்து நலம் பெறத் துடிக்கிறோம். மேலான ஆவிக்குரிய நிலையை புதியவகையில் பெற நிலத்தையும் கடலையும் சுற்றிச்சுற்றி வருகிறோம்.
இந்தப் பேச்சாளர்களில் பெரும்பாலோர் உண்மையுள்ளவர்கள் என்பதிலும், அவர்கள் கூறுவதில் சில கணக்கில் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படதக்கவை என்பதிலும் ஐயமில்லை. ஆனாலும் முடிவில் வாழ்க்கையின் மிக முக்கியமான கட்டத்திற்குத் திரும்பி வந்து பரிசுத்தத்தை அடைய குறுக்குவழி இல்லை என்பதை அறிவோம். வாழ்வில் பிரச்சனைகள் தொடர்ந்து காணப்படும் என்றும், நமது அனுதின வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் கர்த்தர் ஒருவரையே சார்ந்து வாழ வேண்டும் என்றும் அறிந்து கொள்ளுகிறோம்.
முடிவாக, அனுபவங்களைச் சார்ந்து கொள்வதைக் காட்டிலும் கர்த்தராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவால் நிறைந்து வாழ்வதே சிறந்தது என்பதைக் கற்றுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அவரிடத்தில் எவ்வித ஏமாற்றத்தையும் நாம் அடையப்போவதில்லை. நமது தேவை அனைத்தும் அவரிடத்தில் உள்ளன. அவரே எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் போதுமானவர். A. B. சிம்ப்ஸன் என்பார் தனது இளவயதில் அனுபவங்களை நாடிச் சென்றார். ஆயின், அவற்றில் மனநிறைவு அடையவில்லை. பின்னர் ‘எல்லாம் அவரே” என்னும் அழகியபாடலை இயற்றினார். அதனுடைய முதல் அடியையும் பல்லவியையும் கீழே தருகிறோம்.
அன்று நான் நன்மையை நாடினேன், இன்றெனக்கு எல்லாம் இயேசுவே
அன்று நான் உணர்வுகளைத் தேடினேன், இன்றெனக்கு எல்லாம் திருமறையே
அன்று நான் வரங்களை வாஞ்சித்தேன், இன்றெனக்கு எல்லாம் கர்த்தரே
அன்று நான் உடல் நலம் வேண்டினேன், இன்றெனக்கு அவரே போதுமானவர்.
என்றும் அவர்போதும், கர்த்தரை நான் பாடுவோன்
எல்லாம் அவரிடமுண்டு, அதுவே போதும் எனக்கு.

»Da ist … Christus alles …« Kolosser 3,11
Es gibt eine Tendenz unter uns Christen, einen Großteil unserer Zeit darauf zu verwenden, dass wir nach neuen geistlichen Erfahrungen suchen, die uns irgendwie dauerhaften Sieg garantieren oder Freiheit vom Auf und Ab des täglichen Lebens. Wir rennen auf Tagungen, Konferenzen, Seminare und Workshops auf der Suche nach der trügerischen Zauberformel, welche die Probleme unseres Lebens beseitigen soll. Hochglanzbroschüren versichern uns, dass Dr. Soundso seine neue bahnbrechende Entdeckung mitteilen wird, die uns »radioaktiv« werden lässt vor lauter Heiligem Geist. Oder ein eifriger Nachbar will uns unbedingt in die Stadthalle mitschleppen, wo es etwas über eine neulich entdeckte Abkürzung auf dem Weg zum überfließenden Leben zu hören gibt.
Die verlockenden Angebote sind vielfach. Ein Prediger macht Reklame für den Königsweg zur Erfüllung. Ein anderer wirbt mit dem dreifachen Geheimnis des Sieges. Dann wird uns ein Seminar über die Schlüssel zum tieferen Leben angeboten. Nächste Woche gibt es eine Tagung über die fünf einfachen Schritte zur Heiligung. Wir folgen dem Ruf zum Altar und rennen nach vorn, um mit dem Heiligen Geist erfüllt zu werden. Oder wir werden so mit der Heilung des Leibes besessen, als ob das das Wichtigste im Leben wäre. Plötzlich fahren wir auf christliche Psychologie
ab, im nächsten Augenblick auf die Heilung der Erinnerung. Wir durchziehen Land und Meer auf der Suche nach neuen geistlichen Höhenflügen.
Zweifelsohne sind viele dieser Redner ehrlich, und manche Dinge, die sie sagen, haben auch einen gewissen Wert. Aber wenn wir zum Alltagsleben zurückkehren, stellen wir fest, dass es nun einmal keine Schnellstraße zur Heiligung gibt, dass die Probleme immer noch da sind und dass wir Tag für Tag in Abhängigkeit vom Herrn leben müssen. Schließlich sollten wir lernen, dass es besser ist, sich mit dem Herrn Jesus zu beschäftigen als mit Erfahrungen. Bei Ihm gibt es keine Enttäuschung. Alles, was wir brauchen, haben wir von Ihm. Er ist der, der uns in allem volles Genüge gibt.
A.B. Simpson (1844-1919, amerikanischer Gründer der CMA, einer weltweiten Missionsbewegung) verbrachte die frühen Jahre seines Lebens mit der Suche nach Erfahrungen, aber sie stellten ihn nicht zufrieden. Dann schrieb er das wunderschöne Lied mit dem Titel »Er Selbst«, wovon die erste Strophe und der Refrain folgendermaßen lauten:
Einst war es der Segen,
Jetzt ist es der Herr;
Einst war es das Gefühl,
Jetzt ist es Sein Wort;
Einst wollte ich Seine Gaben,
Jetzt freue ich mich an dem Geber;
Einst suchte ich nach Heilung,
Jetzt Ihn selbst allein.
Alles in allem und für immer:
Jesus, will ich singen;
Alles in Jesus, und Jesus alles.
