Walk Without Stumbling
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved. (Psalm 121:3)
If the Lord will not suffer it, neither men nor devils can do it. How greatly would they rejoice if they could give us a disgraceful fall, drive us from our position, and bury us out of memory! They could do this to their heart’s content were it not for one hindrance, and only one: the Lord will not suffer it; and if He does not suffer it, we shall not suffer it.
The way of life is like traveling among the Alps. Along the mountain path one is constantly exposed to the slipping of the foot. Where the way is high the head is apt to swim, and then the feet soon slide; there are spots which are smooth as glass and others that are rough with loose stones, and in either of these a fall is hard to avoid. He who throughout life is enabled to keep himself upright and to walk without stumbling has the best of reasons for gratitude. What with pitfalls and snares, weak knees, weary feet, and subtle enemies, no child of God would stand fast for an hour were it not for the faithful love which will not suffer his foot to be moved.
Amidst a thousand snares I stand
Upheld and guarded by thy hand;
That hand unseen shall hold me still,
And lead me to thy holy hill.

தடுமாற்றம் இல்லாமல் நட
உன் காலைத் தள்ளாடவொட்டார் (சங்.121:3).
ஆண்டவர் அனுமதிக்காவிட்டால் மக்களாவதுபிசாசுகளாவது ஒன்றும் செய்ய முடியாது. அவமானத்திற்கு இடமான வகையில் நம்மை விழத் தள்ளினாலும் நம் நிலையிலிருந்து விரட்டிவிட்டாலும், நம் நினைவுகூட இல்லாத வகையில் நம்மைப் புதைத்து விட்டாலும் இவர்கள் எவ்வளவாய் மகிழ்வார்கள். ஒரேஒரு தடை இல்லாவிட்டால் இவர்கள்விரும்புகிறதை நிறைவேற்றிவிட முடியும். ஆண்டவர் அவ்விதம் செய்ய அனுமதிக்க மாட்டார். அவர் அனுமதிக்காவிட்டால் நாம் துன்புறமாட்டோம்.
வாழ்க்கை முறை ஆல்ப்ஸ் மலைகளின் மேல் பயணம் செய்வதைப் போன்றதாகும். மலைப்பாதையில் நடப்பவன் கால் சறுக்க ஏதுவுண்டு.உயரமான இடத்தில் தலையில் கிறுகிறுப்பு ஏற்பட்டு கால் வழுக்கி விடும். சில இடங்கள் கண்ணாடியைப்போல் வழவழப்பாகவும் சில உறுதியான கற்களினால் கரடுமுரடாகவும் இருக்கும். இப்படிப்பட்ட இடங்களில் வழுக்கி விழுவது தவிர்க்க முடியாததாகும். வாழும் நாளெல்லாம் செம்மையாயும்தடுமாற்றமில்லாமலும் நடக்க உதவி பெற்றவர் நன்றியுள்ளவராயிருப்பதவசியம். இடறு குழிகளும் கண்ணிகளும் தளர்ந்தமுழங்கால்களும் தளர்ச்சியுற்ற கால்களும் இரண்டகமான பகைவரும் இருப்பதால் காலைத் தள்ளவொட்டாத அன்பில்லாவிட்டால் கடவுளின் எந்தப் பிள்ளையும் ஒருமணிநேரம்கூடத் தாக்குப் பிடிக்க முடியாது.
உம் கரத்தால் தாங்கப்பட்டும் உம்மால் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான கண்ணிகள் மத்தியில் நான் நிற்கிறேன். காணமுடியாத அக்கிரமம் என்னைத் தாங்கிப்பிடித்து உம் தூயமலைக்கு வழிநடத்தும்.

„Er wird deinen Fuß nicht gleiten lassen.“ Ps. 121, 3.
Wenn der Herr etwas nicht geschehen lassen will, können weder Menschen noch Teufel es bewerkstelligen. Wie sehr würden sie sich freuen, wenn sie uns zu einem schmachvollen Fall bringen, uns aus unserer Stellung heraustreiben, uns begraben und aus dem Gedächtnis tilgen könnten! Sie könnten dies zur Zufriedenheit ihres Herzens tun, wäre nicht e i n Hindernis, und nur e i n e s : der Herr will es nicht geschehen lassen; und wenn E r es nicht leidet, so werden w i r es nicht erleiden.
Der Lebensweg gleicht einer Alpenreise. Auf den Bergpfaden ist man beständig in Gefahr auszugleiten. Wenn der Weg hoch ist, wird der Kopf leicht schwindlig und dann gleiten die Füße bald: es sind Stellen da, die so glatt wie Glas sind, und andere, die durch lose Steine rauh sind, und auf jeden von diesen ist ein Fall schwer zu vermeiden. – Wer das ganze Leben hindurch imstande gewesen ist, sich aufrecht zu halten und ohne Straucheln zu gehen, hat die besten Ursachen zur Dankbarkeit. Bei allen Fallgruben und Schlingen, schwachen Knieen, müden Füßen und schlauen Feinden würde kein Kind Gottes eine Stunde lang fest stehen, wäre nicht die treue Liebe, die seinen Fuß nicht gleiten lassen will.
„Ob tausend Schlingen mich umgeben,
Mich hält und hütet Deine Hand,
Und führen wird sie mich durchs Leben
Und bringen in das sel‘ge Land.“
