As the Life—So the Fruit

For if these thing be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:8)

If we desire to glorify our Lord by fruitfulness, we must have certain things within us; for nothing can come out of us which is not first of all within us. We must begin with faith, which is the groundwork of all the virtues; and then diligently add to it virtue, knowledge, temperance, and patience. With these we must have godliness and brotherly love. All these put together will most assuredly cause us to produce, as our life fruit, the clusters of usefulness, and we shall not be mere idle knowers but real doers of the Word. These holy things must not only be in us, but abound, or we shall be barren. Fruit is the overflow of life, and we must be full before we can flow over.

We have noticed men of considerable parts and opportunities who have never succeeded in doing real good in the conversion of souls; and after close observation we have concluded that they lacked certain graces which are absolutely essential to fruit bearing. For real usefulness, graces are better than gifts. As the man is, so is his work. If we would do better, we must be better. Let the text be a gentle hint to unfruitful professors and to myself also.

வாழ்க்கையைப்போலவே கனியும் இருக்கும்

இவைகள் உங்களுக்கு உண்டாயிருந்து பெருகினால், உங்களை நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை அறிகிற அறிவிலே வீணரும் கனியற்றவர்களுமாயிருக்கவொட்டாது (2.பேது.1:8).

நம் கனிகளினால் ஆண்டவரைப் பெருமைப்படுத்த நாம் விரும்பினால் நம்மில் சில தன்மைகள் இருக்கவேண்டும். ஏனெனில் நம்மில் இல்லாதது ஒன்றும் வெளிப்படையாகக் காணப்பட முடியாது. அது நம்பிக்கையில் தொடங்கவேண்டும். அதுதான் எல்லா சிறப்பியல்புகளுக்கும் அடிப்படை. பின்ஊக்கமாக உழைத்து அதோடு ஒழுக்கம், அறிவு, தன்னடக்கம், பொறுமை இவற்றைச் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும். இவற்றோடு கடவுள் பற்றும் சகோதர அன்பும் நிலைத்திருக்கவேண்டும். இவையெல்லாம் நம்மில் ஒருங்கே இணைந்திருந்தால் நிச்சயமாக நம் வாழ்க்கையின் கனிகளாகக்கொத்து கொத்தாக பயனுடைமை என்னும் கனிகளை நாம் கொடுப்பவர்களாயிருப்போம். நாமும் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மட்டுமல்லாமல், அதன்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருப்போம். இவை நம்மில் ஒரளவு இருப்பதுமட்டும் போதாது, ஆனால் மிகுந்திருக்கவேண்டும்.இல்லையெனில் நாம் கனிகொடுக்கமுடியாது. வாழ்க்கை நிரம்பி வழிவதே கனியாகும். நிரம்பி வழிவதற்கு முன் நாம் நிரப்பப்பட்டிருக்கவேண்டும்.

குறிப்பிடத்தக்க கடமைகளும் வாய்ப்புகளும் பெற்றிருந்தும் சிலர் ஆத்துமாக்களை ஆதாயம்பண்ணுவதில் சிறப்பானமுன்னேற்றம் காட்டாமல் இருந்ததை நாம் அறிந்திருக்கிறோம். அவர்களைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்தபின் கனி கொடுப்தற்கு அத்தியாவசியமான சில நற்பண்புகள் அவர்களில் இல்லாமல் இருந்ததே காரணம் என்று கண்டுபிடித்திருக்கிறோம். நாம் பயப்படுகிறவர்களாயிருக்க வரங்களை விடநற்பண்புகளே தேவை. ஒருவன் எப்படிப்பட்டவனாயிருக்கிறானோ அப்படிப்பட்டதாகவே அவன் வேலையும் இருக்கும். நாம் நன்றாக வேலைசெய்ய வேண்டுமானால் நல்லவர்களாய் இருக்கவேண்டும். கனிகொடாமல் இருக்கும் போதகர்களும் இதை வாசிப்பவராகிய உமக்கும்கூட இது சிறுஎச்சரிக்கையாயிருக்கட்டும்.

„Denn wo solches reichlich bei euch ist, wird es euch nicht faul noch unfruchtbar sein lassen, in der Erkenntnis unsres Herrn Jesu Christi.“ 2. Petrus 1, 8.

Wenn wir wünschen, unseren Herrn durch Fruchtbarbarkeit zu verherrlichen, so müssen sich gewisse Dinge in uns finden; denn nichts kann aus uns herauskommen, was nicht zuerst in uns ist. Wir müssen mit dem Glauben beginnen, der die Grundlage aller Tugenden ist; und dann fleißig hinzufügen Tugend, Erkenntnis, Mäßigkeit und Geduld. Dabei müssen wir Gottseligkeit und brüderliche Liebe haben. Wenn alle diese verbunden sind, so werden wir sicherlich als unsere Lebensfrucht die Trauben nützlichen Wirkens hervorbringen, und werden nicht nur müßige Kenner, sondern wirkliche Täter des Wortes sein. Diese heiligen Dinge müssen sich nicht bloß in uns finden, sondern sie müssen sich reichlich finden, sonst werden wir unfruchtbar sein. Frucht ist das Überfließen des Lebens, und wir müssen voll sein, ehe wir überfließen können.

Wir haben Männer gekannt, die beträchtliche Fähigkeiten und günstige Gelegenheit hatten, und denen es doch nie gelang, in der Bekehrung von Seelen wirklich Gutes zu wirken; und nach genauer Beobachtung sind wir zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass ihnen gewisse Gnaden fehlten, die schlechthin notwendig zum Fruchttragen sind. Für ein wirklich nützliches Wirken sind Gnaden besser als Gaben. Wie der Mensch ist, so ist sein Werk. Wenn wir besser w i r k e n wollen, so müssen wir besser s e i n . Lasst diesen Spruch einen leisen Wink sein für unfruchtbare Christen, u n d f ü r m i c h s e l b e r a u c h.
