Honor God
Them that honor me I will honor. (1 Samuel 2:30)
Do I make the honor of God the great object of my life and the rule of my conduct? If so, He will honor me. I may for a while receive no honor from man, but God will Himself put honor upon me in the most effectual manner. In the end it will be found the surest way to honor to be willing to be put to shame for conscience’ sake.
Eli had not honored the Lord by ruling his household well, and his sons had not honored the Lord by behavior worthy of their sacred office, and therefore the Lord did not honor them but took the high priesthood out of their family and made young Samuel to be ruler in the land instead of any of their line. If I would have my family ennobled, I must honor the Lord in all things. God may allow the wicked to win worldly honors; but the dignity which He Himself gives, even glory, honor, and immortality, He reserves for those who by holy obedience take care to honor Him.
What can I do this day to honor the Lord? I will promote His glory by my spoken testimony and by my practical obedience, I will also honor Him with my substance and by offering to Him some special service. Let me sit down and think how I can honor Him, since He will honor me.

கடவுளைக் கனம் பண்ணு
என்னைக் கனம் பண்ணுகிறவர்களை நான் கனம் பண்ணுவேன் (1.சாமு.2:30).
கடவுளைக் கனம் பண்ணுவதையே என் வாழ்க்கையின் முக்கிய குறிக்கோளாகவும் என் நடத்தையின் விதியாகவும் கொண்டுள்ளேனா? அப்படியானால் அவர் என்னைக் கனம் பண்ணுவார். ஒருவேளை சிறிதுகாலம் மக்கள் என்னைக் கனம் பண்ண மாட்டார்கள். ஆனால் கடவுளே முடிவான பயனுடைய விதமாய் நான் கனம் அடையச் செய்வார். மனச்சாட்சியின்படி நடப்பதனால் அவமானம் அடைவதற்குக் கூட ஆயத்தமாயிருப்பதே கனம் அடைவதற்கு நிச்சயமான வழி என்று இறுதியில் அறிவோம்.
ஏலி தன் குடும்பத்தைச் சரியான வழியில் நடத்தி, ஆண்டவரைக் கனம் பண்ணவில்லை. அவர் குமாரர் தங்கள் புனிதமான பணிக்கேற்றவாறு நடந்து, ஆண்டவரைக் கனம் பண்ணவில்லை. பிரதான ஆசாரியராயிருக்கும் பொறுப்பை அவர் குடும்பத்திலிருந்து எடுத்து விட்டார். இளமையான சாமுவேலை நாட்டின் தலைவராக்கி, ஏலியின் மரபு வரிசையில் யாரும் அப்பதவியை வகிக்காதவாறு செய்து விட்டார். என் குடும்பத்தினர் கனம் அடைய வேண்டுமானால் நான் ஆண்டவரை எல்லாவற்றிலும் கனம் பண்ண வேண்டும். ஒழுக்கக் கேடானவர்கள் உலகப் பிரகாரமாகப் புகழ் அடைவதை ஆண்டவர் தடுக்காமல் விடலாம். ஆனால் அவரே அளிக்கும் மேன்மையையும், புகழ், கனம், நித்திய வாழ்வையும் அவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவதன் மூலம் அவரைக் கனம் பண்ணக் கவனமாயிருப்பவர்களுக்கே ஒதுக்கி வைத்துள்ளார்.
இன்று ஆண்டவரைக் கனம் பண்ண நான் என்ன செய்யலாம்? அவரைப் பற்றிச் சாட்சி கூறுவதன் மூலமும், செயல் முறையில் அவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிதலின் மூலமும் அவர் புகழை உயர்த்துவேன். என் பொருளினாலும் அவருக்கென்று சிறப்பாக ஏதாவது ஒருவிதத்தில் சேவை செய்வதினாலும் அவரைக் கனம் பண்ணுவேன். அவர் என்னைக் கனம் பண்ணுவார் என்னும் நிச்சயம் எனக்கு இருப்பதால் அமர்ந்திருந்து, நான் எவ்விதத்தில் அவரைக் கனம் பண்ணலாம் என்று சிந்திப்பேனாக!

„Wer mich ehrt, den will ich auch ehren.“ 1. Sam. 2, 30.
Mache ich die Ehre Gottes zum großen Zweck meines Lebens und zur Regel meines Verhaltens? Wenn das, so will Er mich ehren. Ich mag eine Zeitlang keine Ehre von Menschen empfangen, aber Gott selber wird mir in sehr wirksamer Weise Ehre antun. Am letzten Ende wird sich finden, dass es der sicherste Weg zur Ehre ist, wenn man willig ist, um des Gewissens willen Schmach zu leiden.
Eli hatte den Herrn nicht durch gutes Regiment in seinem Hause geehrt, und seine Söhne hatten den Herrn nicht durch ein ihrem heiligen Amt geziemendes Verhalten geehrt, und deshalb ehrte der Herr s i e nicht, sondern nahm das Hohepriestertum aus der Familie hinweg und machte den jungen Samuel zum Regierer des Landes, statt eines aus ihrem Hause. Wenn ich die Meinigen erhoben sehen will, so muss ich den Herrn in allen Dingen ehren. Gott mag dem Gottlosen gestatten, weltliche Ehren zu gewinnen; aber die Würde, welche Er selbst gibt, nämlich Preis und Ehre und unvergängliches Wesen, behält Er für diejenigen auf, die Sorge tragen, I h n zu ehren.
Was kann ich heute tun, den Herrn zu ehren? Ich will seinen Ruhm fördern durch mein mündliches Zeugnis und durch meinen tatsächlichen Gehorsam. Ich will Ihn auch mit meinen Gütern ehren und indem ich Ihm einen besonderen Dienst darbringe. Lasst mich niedersitzen und nachdenken, wie ich Ihn ehren kann, da Er mich ehren will.
