More than Mere Words
I will give you the sure mercies of David. (Acts 13:34)
Nothing of man is sure; but everything of God is so. Especially are covenant mercies sure mercies, even as David said “an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure.”
We are sure that the Lord meant His mercy. He did not speak mere wards: there is substance and truth in every one of His promises. His mercies are mercies indeed. Even if a promise seems as if it must drop through by reason of death, yet it never shall, for the good Lord will make good His word.
We are sure that the Lord will bestow promised mercies on all His covenanted ones. They shall come in due course to all the chosen of the Lord. They are sure to all the seed, from the least of them unto the greatest of them. We are sure that the Lord will continue His mercies to His own people. He does not give and take. What He has granted us is the token of much more. That which we have not yet received is as sure as that which has already come; therefore, let us wait before the Lord and be still. There is no justifiable reason for the least doubt. God’s love, and word, and faithfulness are sure. Many things are questionable, but of the Lord we sing—
For his mercies shall endure
Ever faithful, ever sure.

வெறும் வார்த்தைகளை விட மேலானவை
தாவீதுக்கு அருளின நிச்சயமான கிருபைகளை உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுவேன் (அப்.13:34).
மனிதனைக் குறித்த எவையும் நிச்சயமானவையல்ல.ஆனால் கடவுளைக் குறித்த எல்லாம் நிச்சயமானவை. சிறப்பாக உடன்படிக்கையில் வாக்குப்பண்ணப்பட்ட கிருபைகள் நிச்சயமானவை. ஏனெனில் தாவீதே நித்திய உடன்படிக்கையை உறுதிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார் என்று சொல்லுகிறார்.
கடவுள் நம் கிருபையைக் குறித்தே இவ்விதம்கூறியிருக்கிறார் என்று நிச்சயமாய் நாம் நம்பலாம். அவர் வெறும் சொற்களைப் பேசவில்லை. அவர் வாக்குறுதி ஒவ்வொன்றும் உண்மையானது. சாரம் நிறைந்தது. அவர் கிருபைகள் உண்மையான கிருபைகள். மரணம் ஏற்பட்டு விட்டால் வாக்குறுதி நிறைவேறாமற் போய்விடுமோ என்று நாம் அஞ்சவேண்டியதில்லை. ஏனெனில் நமது நல்ல ஆண்டவர் எப்படியும் அதை நிறைவேறச் செய்வார். தாம் யாரோடெல்லாம் உடன்படிக்கை செய்துள்ளாரோ அவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் கிருபை நிறைந்த வாக்குறுதியை அளிப்பார். ஆண்டவரால் தெரிந்து கொள்ளப்படுவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் சமயம் வரும் போது அவைநிறைவேறும். சிறுவரிலிருந்து பெரியவர்வரை அவை நிச்சயமாய் அருளப்படும்.
தம் சொந்த மக்களுக்கு தம் கிருபைகளைத் தொடர்ந்து அளித்து வருவார் என்பது நிச்சயம். அவர் கொடுத்து விட்டுத் திரும்ப எடுத்துக்கொள்ளமாட்டார். அவர் இப்போது கொடுப்பவை இனி அதிகம்கொடுப்பதற்கான அடையாளமாகும். இனிமேல் நாம் அடையப்போகிறவை இப்போது பெற்றுள்ளவையைப்போல் நிச்சயமானவை. ஆகையால் நாம் ஆண்டவர் சமூகத்தில் அமைதியாய்க் காத்திருப்போமாக! நாம் சந்தேகப்படுவதற்குக் காரணமேயில்லை. கடவுளின் அன்பும் வாக்குகளும் நேர்மையும்நிச்சயமுமானவை. பலவற்றைக் குறித்து நாம் சந்தேகம் கொள்ளலாம். ஆனால் கடவுளைக் குறித்து நாம் அவர் தயை என்றைக்கும் தாசரோடு நிலைக்கும் என்று பாடுகிறோமே!

„Ich will euch geben die gewissen Gnaden Davids.“ Apg. 13, 34.
Nichts Menschliches ist gewiss; aber alles Göttliche ist es. Besonders sind die Gnaden des Bundes gewisse Gnaden, wie David auch sagte, „ein ewiger Bund, verordnet in allen Dingen und gewiss.“ (2. Sam. 23)
Wir sind gewiss, dass der Herr wirklich seine Gnade meinte. Er sprach nicht bloße Worte: es ist Wesen und Wahrheit in jeder seiner Verheißungen. Seine Gnaden sind in der Tat Gnaden. Sogar wenn es scheint, als wenn eine Verheißung durch den Tod hinfällig würde, so soll sie es doch nicht sein, denn der Herr wird sein Wort erfüllen.
Wir sind gewiss, dass der Herr die verheißenen Gnaden allen in seinen Bund Aufgenommenen verleihen wird. Sie sollen zur rechten Zeit allen Erwählten des Herrn zuteil werden. Sie sind allem Samen gewiss, von dem kleinsten bis zum größten.
Wir sind gewiss, dass der Herr seine Gnaden seinem Volke fortwährend geben wird. Er gibt nicht und nimmt dann wieder. Was Er uns gewährt hat, ist das Zeichen von viel mehr weiteren. Das, was wir noch nicht empfangen haben, ist ebenso gewiss wie das, was schon gekommen ist; deshalb lasst uns des Herrn harren und stille sein. Es ist keine begründete Ursache für den geringsten Zweifel vorhanden. Gottes Liebe und Wort und Treue sind gewiss. Viele Dinge sind fraglich, aber von dem Herrn singen wir:
„Alles währet seine Zeit,
Gottes Lieb‘ in Ewigkeit.“
