Wilderness Communion
I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. (Hosea 2:14)
The goodness of God sees us allured by sin, and it resolves to try upon us the more powerful allurements of love. Do we not remember when the Lover of our souls first cast a spell upon us and charmed us away from the fascinations of the world! He will do this again and again whenever He sees us likely to be ensnared by evil.
He promises to draw us apart, for there He can best deal with us, and this separated place is not to be a paradise, but a wilderness, since in such a place there will be nothing to take of our attention from our God. In the deserts of affliction the presence of the Lord becomes everything to us, and we prize His company beyond any value which we set upon it when we sat under our own vine and fig tree in the society of our fellows. Solitude and affliction bring more to themselves and to their heavenly Father than any other means.
When thus allured and secluded the Lord has choice things to say to us for our comfort. He “speaks to our heart,” as the original has it. Oh, that at this we may have this promise explained in our experience! Allured by love, separated by trial, and comforted by the Spirit of truth, may we know the Lord and sing for joy!

வனாந்தரத்தில் ஆன்மீகக் கூட்டுறவு
இதோ நான் அவளுக்கு நயங்காட்டி, அவளை வனாந்தரத்தில் அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போய், அவளோடே பட்சமாய்ப்பேசி, (ஓசி.2:14)
நாம் பாவத்தினால் வருதப்படுத்தப்படுவதை ஆண்டவர் கண்டு தம் அன்புடமையினால் நம்மைக் கவரத் தீர்மானிக்கிறார். நம் ஆத்தும நேசர் முதலில் நம்மைக் கவர்ந்து உலகப்பற்றிலிருந்து நம்மை ஈர்த்தது நம் நினைவில் இருக்கிறதல்லவா? தீமையில் நாம் சிக்கிக் கொள்வதைப்போல்காணப்படும் போதெல்லாம் அவர் அவ்விதம் செய்வார்.
நம்மோடு சிறந்த முறையில் செயல் தொடர்பு கொள்ளக்கூடிய இடத்துக்கு நம்மைப் பிரித்துச் செல்வதாக ஆண்டவர் வாக்களிக்கிறார். இது பரதீசைப்போல் இருக்காது. ஆனால் வனாந்தரமான இடமாயிருக்கும். ஏனெனில் அங்கேதான் கடவுள் மேலிருந்து நம் கவனத்தைத் திருப்ப எதுவும் இருக்காது. நாம் துன்பம் என்னும் வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கும்போது ஆண்டவரின் பிரசன்னமே எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் எல்லாமாக இருக்கும். அந்த நேரம் நம் நண்பரோடு நமக்குச் சொந்தமான திராட்சைச் செடிகள் அத்தி மரங்களுக்குக்கீழே அமர்ந்திருந்தபோது இருந்ததை விடப் பல மடங்கு அவரது தோழமையை மதிக்கிறவர்களாயிருப்போம்.
இவ்விதம் நயங்காட்டி தனியே அழைத்துக் கொண்டு போனபின் ஆண்டவர் நம்மை ஆற்றித்தேற்றுவதற்கு தகுந்த வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லுகிறார். மூலமொழியில் அவர் நம்மனதிற்கேற்றவாறு பேசுகிறார் என்று சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இங்கு விளக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் வாக்குறுதியை நம் அனுபவத்தில் கண்டறிந்திருந்தால் எவ்வளவு நன்றாயிருக்கும். அன்பினால் கவரப்பட்டும் துன்பத்தினால் பிரிக்கப்பட்டும் உண்மையான ஆவியினால் தேற்றப்பட்டும் நாம்ஆண்டவரை அறிந்து மகிழ்ச்சிப் பெருக்கினால் பாடி ஆனந்தமடைவோமாக!

„Ich will sie locken und will sie in eine Wüste führen und tröstlich mit ihr reden.“ Hos. 2, 14.
Die Güte Gottes sieht, dass wir von der Sünde angelockt werden und beschließt, die mächtigeren Lockungen der Liebe an uns zu versuchen. Erinnern wir uns nicht, wie der Liebhaber unserer Seelen zuerst seine Anziehungskraft auf uns ausübte und uns von den Bezauberungen der Welt hinweglockte? Er will dies immer wieder tun, wenn Er uns in Gefahr sieht, vom Bösen umstrickt zu werden.
Er verheißt, uns besonders zu nehmen, denn so kann Er am besten auf uns einwirken, und dieser abgesonderte Ort soll nicht ein Paradies sein, sondern eine Wüste, weil dort nichts sein wird, was unsere Aufmerksamkeit von Gott abzieht. In den Wüsten der Trübsal wird die Gegenwart des Herrn alles für uns und wir legen weit höheren Wert auf die Gemeinschaft mit Ihm, als wir es taten, da wir unter unserem eigenen Weinstock und Feigenbaum in der Gesellschaft unserer Gefährten saßen. Einsamkeit und Leiden bringen mehr Menschen zu sich selber und zu ihrem himmlischen Vater, als irgendwelche andere Mittel.
Wenn wir so angelockt und in die Einsamkeit geführt sind, hat der Herr uns köstliche Dinge zu unserem Trost zu sagen. „Er redet zu unserem Herzen“, wie es im Original lautet. O, dass uns jetzt diese Verheißung in unserer Erfahrung ausgelegt würde! Gelockt durch Liebe, abgesondert durch Leiden und getröstet durch den Geist der Wahrheit, möchten wir da den Herrn erkennen und vor Freude singen!
