He Will Return
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. (John 14:18)
He left us, and yet we are not left orphans. He is our comfort, and He is gone; but we are not comfortless. Our comfort is that He will come to us, and this is consolation enough to sustain us through His prolonged absence. Jesus is already on His way: He says, “I come quickly”: He rides posthaste toward us. He says, “I will come”: and none can prevent His coming, or put it back for a quarter of an hour. He specially says, “I will come to you”; and so He will. His coming is specially to and for His own people. This is meant to be their present comfort while they mourn that the Bridegroom doth not yet appear.
When we lose the joyful sense of His presence we mourn, but we may not sorrow as if there were no hope. Our Lord in a little wrath has hid Himself from us for a moment, but He will return in full favor. He leaves us in a sense, but only in a sense. When He withdraws, He leaves a pledge behind that He will return. O Lord, come quickly! There is no life in this earthly existence if Thou be gone. We sigh for the return of Thy sweet smile. When wilt Thou come unto us? We are sure Thou wilt appear; but be Thou like a roe, or a young hart. Make no tarrying, O our God!

அவர் திரும்ப வருவார்
நான் உங்களைத் திக்கற்றவர்களாக விடேன், உங்களிடத்தில் வருவேன் (யோ.14:18).
அவர் நம்மை விட்டுச் சென்றுள்ளார். ஆயினும் நம்மை அனாதைகளாக விடவில்லை. நம் ஆறுதலான அவர், நம்மை விட்டுச் சென்றுவிட்டார். ஆயினும் நம்மை ஆறுதல் அற்றவர்களாக விடவில்லை. அவர் நீண்ட காலமாகத் திரும்பி வராமல் இருந்தாலும் அவர் எப்படியும் மறுபடியும் வருவார் என்பதே நமக்கு ஊக்கம் அளிப்பதாகும். இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். அவர் இதோ சீக்கிரமாய் வருகிறேன் என்கிறார். நம்மை நோக்கி வேகமாக வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். நான் வருவேன் என்கிறார். யாரும் அவரைத் தடுக்கவாவது கால்மணிநேரம் தாமதப்படுத்தவாவது முடியாது. அவர் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் நம்மிடம் நான் உங்களிடத்தில் வருவேன் என்கிறார். அவ்விதமே வருவார். அவர் தம் சொந்த மக்களுக்காக, அவர்களிடம் வருகிறார். மணவாளன் இன்னும் வரவில்லையே என்று ஏங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பவர்களுக்கு இவை ஆறுதல் அளிக்கும் சொற்களாகும்.
அவர் நமக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்க அவர் நம்மோடு இல்லையே என்னும் எண்ணம் ஏற்படும்போது ஏங்கித் தவிக்கிறோம். ஆனால் நாம் நம்பிக்கையற்றுத் துக்கப்படுவதில்லை. நம் ஆண்டவர் சிறிது கோபம் கொண்டு கொஞ்ச நேரம் நம்மைவிட்டு மறைந்திருப்பார். ஆனால் கருணையோடு திரும்ப வருவார். அவர் ஒருவிதத்தில்தான் நம்மை விட்டுப் போயிருக்கிறார். அவர் அவ்விதம் போகும்போது மறுபடியும் வருவதாகத்தான் வாக்குறுதியளித்துத்தான் போயிருக்கிறார். ஆண்டவரே சீக்கிரம் வாரும் நீர் இல்லாவிடில் இந்த உலகவாழ்க்கையில் உயிராற்றல் இல்லை. உம் இனிய முகமலர்ச்சியைக் காணவேண்டுமென்று பெருமூச்சுடன் ஏங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். நீர் எப்பொழுது எங்களிடம் வருவீர்? நீர் வருவீர் என்று திட்டமாய் நம்புகிறோம். மானைப்போலத் தீ விரித்து வாரும் எங்கள் கடவுளே, தாமதியாதேயும்.

„Ich will euch nicht Waisen lassen; ich komme zu euch.“ Joh. 14, 18.
Er verließ uns, und dennoch sind wir nicht als Waisen zurückgelassen. Er ist unser Trost, und Er ist gegangen; aber wir sind nicht ohne Trost. Unser Trost ist, dass Er zu uns kommen wird, und dies ist genug, uns während seiner langen Abwesenheit aufrecht zu halten. Jesus ist schon auf dem Wege, Er spricht: „Ich komme bald,“ Er naht sich uns eiligst. Er spricht: „Ich komme,“ und niemand kann sein Kommen hindern oder es auch nur um eine Viertelstunde zurückhalten. Er sagt ausdrücklich: „Ich komme zu euch ;“ und das wird Er. Sein Kommen ist besonders zu und für uns, die Seinen. Dies soll unser Trost sein, jetzt solange wir Leid tragen, dass der Bräutigam noch nicht erscheint.
Wenn wir das freudige Gefühl seiner Gegenwart verlieren, so trauern wir, aber wir dürfen nicht traurig sein wie diejenigen, die keine Hoffnung haben. Unser Herr hat sich im Augenblick des Zorns ein wenig vor uns verborgen, aber Er wird mit voller Huld zu uns zurückkehren. In einem Sinne verlässt Er uns, aber nur in einem. Wenn Er sich uns entzieht, so lässt Er uns ein Pfand zurück, dass Er wiederkehren will.
O Herr, komme bald! Es ist kein Leben in diesem irdischen Dasein, wenn Du nicht da bist. Wir seufzen nach der Rückkehr Deines freundlichen Lächelns. Wann willst Du zu uns kommen? Wir sind gewiss, dass Du erscheinen willst; aber sei Du hier gleich einem Reh oder einem jungen Hirsch: Verziehe nicht, o unser Gott!
