Look and Live

And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shalt come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. (Numbers 21:8)

This is a glorious gospel type. Jesus, numbered with the transgressors, hangs before us on the cross. A look to Him will heal us of the serpent-bite of sin; will heal us at once—”When he looketh upon it, he shall live.” Let the reader who is mourning his sinfulness note the words—”Everyone that looketh upon it shall live.” Every looker will find this true. I have found it so. I looked to Jesus and lived at once, I know I did. Reader, if you look to Jesus you will live, too. True, you are swelling with the venom, and you see no hope, True, also there is no hope but this one. But this is no doubtful cure—”Everyone that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.”

The brazen serpent was not lifted up as a curiosity to be gazed upon by the healthy; but its special purpose was for those who were “bitten.” Jesus died as a real Savior for real sinners. Whether the bite has made you a drunkard, or a thief, or an unchaste or a profane person, a look at the great Savior will heal you of these diseases and make you live in holiness and communion with God. Look and live.

நோக்கிப் பார்த்துப் பிழைத்துக்கொள்

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: நீ ஒரு கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பத்தின் உருவத்தைச் செய்து, அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தின்மேல் தூக்கிவை. கடிக்கப்பட்டவன் எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான் என்றார் (எண்.21:8).

இது மகிமையான நற்செய்தியின் அமைப்புரு ஆகும். நம் கண்முன்னே இயேசு குற்றவாளியைப்போல சிலுவையில் தொங்குகிறார். அவரை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் பாவமாகிய பாம்புக்கடியிலிருந்து சுகம் பெறுவோம். எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான். இதை வாசிப்பவர் தன் பாவங்களுக்காகத் துக்கப்படுகிறவரானால்….. எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான் என்னும் வார்த்தைகளை கவனித்துப் பார்க்கட்டும். நோக்கிப் பார்ப்பவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் இது உண்மை என்று அறிவார்கள். நான் அது உண்மை என்று கண்டுபிடித்துள்ளேன். நான் இயேசுவை நோக்கிப் பார்த்து உடனே பிழைத்தேன். இதைத் திட்டமாய் அறிவேன். இதை வாசிப்பவரே, இயேசுவை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் நீரும் பிழைப்பீர். விஷத்தினால் உமக்கு வீக்கம் கண்டிருக்கிறது என்பதும் உமக்கு எந்த நம்பிக்கையும் இல்லை என்பதும் உண்மை. ஆனால் அதற்கான இந்த நிவாரணம் சந்தேகத்திற்கு இடமானது அல்ல. கடிக்கப்பட்டவன் எவனோ அவன் அதை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் பிழைப்பான்.

வெண்கலத்தினாலான சர்ப்பம் அரும் பொருளாக சுகம் உள்ளவர்கள் பார்ப்பதற்காக உயரத்தில் வைக்கப்படவில்லை. ஆனால் கடிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்குச் சுகம் அளிக்கவே அது உயரத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டது. இயேசு மெய்யான பாவிகளின் மெய்யான இரட்சகராக மரித்தார். கடிக்கப்பட்டதானால் நீர் குடிகாரனாயாவது, திருடனாயாவது, தூய்மை கெட்டவராயாவது, புனிதநிலை கெட்டவராயாவது மாறியிருந்தால் மகத்துவமான இரட்சகரை நோக்கிப் பார்ப்பது மேற்கூறிய நோய்களிலிருந்து உமக்குச் சுகமளித்து, நீர் தூய்மை உள்ளவராயும் கடவுளோடு கூட்டுறவு உள்ளவராயும் வாழச்செய்யும். நீர் நோக்கிப் பார்த்துப் பிழைப்பீராக !

„Da sprach der Herr zu Mose: Mache dir eine eherne Schlange, und richte sie zum Zeichen auf; ein jeglicher, der gebissen ist und siehet sie an, der soll leben.“ 4. Mose 21, 8.

Das ist ein herrliches Vorbild des Evangeliums, Jesus, unter die Übeltäter gerechnet, hängt vor uns am Kreuz. Ein Blick auf Ihn wird uns von dem Schlangenbiss der Sünde heilen, wird uns sogleich heilen – „wer sie ansieht, der soll leben.“ Möge der Leser, der über seine Sünden trauert, die Worte beachten – ein jeglicher, der sie ansieht, der soll leben. Jeder Anblickende wird dies finden. Ich habe es so gefunden. Ich blickte auf Jesus und lebte sogleich. Ich weiß, dass ich es tat. Leser, wenn du auf Jesus blickst, so wirst du auch leben. Wahr ist‘s, du schwillst an von dem Gift, und du siehst keine Hoffnung. Auch wahr ist: es gibt keine Hoffnung als diese eine. Aber diese ist keine zweifelhafte Kur – „ein jeglicher, der gebissen ist und sieht sie an, der soll leben.“

Die eherne Schlange wurde nicht als eine Merkwürdigkeit, welche die Gesunden ansehen sollten, aufgerichtet: sondern ihr besonderer Zweck war für die, welche „gebissen“ waren. Jesus starb als ein wirklicher Heiland für wirkliche Sünder. Ob der Biss dich zu einem Trunkenbold oder einem Dieb, einem Unkeuschen oder einem Gottesverächter gemacht hat, ein Blick auf den großen Heiland wird dich von diesen Krankheiten heilen und dich in Heiligkeit und Gemeinschaft mit Gott leben lassen. Blicke auf und lebe!
